Colin is a Central Queenslander, born and bred- he was educated in Rockhampton, where he was active in sport, becoming a CQ swimming champion, which skills he expanded and applied while serving, for many years in the Emu Park Surf Life-Saving Club. He also enjoyed 5 years as a Noncommissioned Officer in the 42nd Battalion RQR.
Colin acquired the degree of Bachelor of Laws in 1983 from QIT while studying part time, and working as an assessor in the Office of State Revenue, where he lay the foundations of his commercial knowledge. In 1984 Colin was admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland after completing post graduate studies to obtain a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from QIT.
Colin established his own legal practice in 1986 in Rockhampton, because he believed that a provincial city was an excellent place in which to raise children.
The vertical learning curve and competing demands for the time of the small businessman was something Colin developed and mastered as the Law firm expanded. This success enables Colin to provide practical result-orientated options and recommendations to business clients. It is Colin's practical experience of the necessity, as a businessman, to ensure the results of years of work are subject to asset protection, estate planning and a succession plan, which interested him in completing further study in Estate Planning towards a Masters of Laws from the QUT.
Colin's experience as a litigant in the Family Court, many years as a Practitioner in this stressful area of law, and continuing legal education and membership of the Family law Practitioners Association all enables him to offer practical advice from a perspective not open to most Solicitors.
Colin has also been a member of the Succession Law Committee of the Queensland Law Society since 2003. |
